July 6, 2011 (Sherman Oaks, CA) On Friday July 1, 2011celebrities, press and media stopped into Eleanor Jean, Haute Beauty to celebrate the “Pink” carpet launch of “A Scent for Humanity” with Pop & R&B recording artist Lily Elise (NBC’s “The Voice” – Christina Aguliera’s team). Reading, Writing, It’s Exciting (RWE) was the first lucky charity to be drawn from the list of charities. RWE will receive a portion of sales every time Eleanor Jean, Haute Beauty Boutique sells the custom scent that Lily created appropriately titled “Lily’s Kiss”.

Along with drawing the charity name, Lily Elise also created her own custom scent at the fragrance bar. Guests received complimentary gift bags (Sponsors: New Beauty Magazine, Ventura Blvd Magazine, Prim, Tocca, Hint Water, and Food Should Taste Good Chips) along with decadent desserts provided by Ingrid’s Cafe…

Some of the participating charities in the drawing included: Santa’s Gift, Toys For Tots, Reading Writing It’s Exciting!, H.A.R.K., Children Of The Night, and Alicia’s House Food Pantry. Each month a new charity will be drawn and they will receive the proceeds from the boutique sales of the new scent each celebrity creates for the entire month until the next drawing takes place.

“A Scent for Humanity” is a charity trend created by Eleanor Jean, Haute Beauty to benefit charities worldwide. Eleanor Jean, Haute Beauty is inviting celebrities into the boutique on the first day of each month to benefit a different charity each month. After the celebrity draws the charity he or she will celebrate by creating the perfect scent. After the drawing Eleanor Jean, Haute Beauty will donate a portion of the sales to benefit that charity each month. This event will give ALL charities a chance to participate and benefit from the exposure as well as creating scents for each celebrity and every time that scent is sold Eleanor Jean will donate a portion of sales to benefit the monthly charity.

“Reading, Writing, It’s Exciting” at Barnes & Noble in Los Angeles on June 7, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Reading, Writing, It’s Exciting teamed up with celebrities at Barnes & Noble in Westside Pavilion to promote literacy…

June 8, 2011 (Los Angeles, CA) The Reading, Writing, It’s Exciting! Program (RWE) recently hosted a star studded reading and literacy event at the Westside Pavilion Barnes & Noble on June 7th to promote literacy and to shine a spotlight on how important it is for parents to read with their children. To help ensure this message is heard, we invited celebrities to read a story and/or book (the children have written) and also act out the books with some of the children at our event. Our goal with the celebrity participation will hopefully inspire other parents to undertake this all-so-important activity with their own children. Literacy experts have all stated that if parents read to, and with, their children from a young age, it would solve many of our literacy problems.

Evans (Bad Teacher, Zoey 101, Drake & Josh), Kate Linder (Young & Restless), Julianna Rose (There Will Be Blood, Little Miss Sunshine, G Force, The Last Mimzy), Jennessa Rose (Enchanted, Happy Feet, Little Miss Sunshine), Danika Yarosh (A Christmas Wedding Tail –with Jennie Garth, Nerd Wars, The Wizard of Oz-on Broadway), Derek Bloom (Victorious, Beyond The Mat), and Petey Yarosh (Celebrity Ghost Stories)

Reading Writing "It's Exciting!!! RWE"

RWE is a nonprofit literacy program designed to improve the reading and writing skills of at-risk children. We do this by providing one-to-one writing mentors throughout the school year for kids who are chosen by their teachers to participate. At the end of the school year, the kids get to read one of their stories at a Barnes & Noble, and then watch in special VIP seats as actors perform them for the audience.

The reason for our program is that research shows that if children aren’t writing and reading at their grade level by the end of second grade, they almost never catch up. Further research has also shown that as many as 80% of those kids eventually drop out of high school, are unemployed, are in prison or join gangs. And how accurate are those numbers? Several states actually base their future prison building plans on them! There are over 45,000 second grade students in L.A., and only 41% of them are proficient in writing and reading. We must help all of them…

BENEFICIARY:
Reading, Writing, It’s Exciting!
The purpose of Reading, Writing, It’s Exciting! is to mentor kids in Los Angeles in writing and reading. They work closely with schools, so that teachers handpick the students who need their help the most. Each year, Reading, Writing, It’s Exciting!:
• Teaches children how to write a story with their own ideas
• Brings out the creativity in kids with fun imagination games
• Provides mentors to help children write their own stories
• Helps children read their story out loud in front of a group
• Gives kids the opportunity to read their own creative stories in front their families and friends at a bookstore.

Stats:
• According to the California Department of Education, only 41% of LAUSD
students are proficient in Language Arts (reading/writing)
• Research has shown that students who are not reading and writing at
grade level by the 3rd grade fall further and further behind their
classmates, and rarely ever catch up. (The Annie E. Casey Foundation)
• Furthermore, the numbers have shown that 50-80% of these children who can’t
read or write eventually drop out of high school, are unemployed, commit
crimes, or join gangs. (The Washington Literacy Council)
• Several states actually base their future prison building plans on these
numbers. That’s how accurate they are!
We are hoping by reaching these children now, they won’t become a part of these statistics.
