What American Childhood Cancer Organization Does
Since 1970, American Childhood Cancer Organization has been respected as an essential and integral provider of programs and services required by families of children and adolescents with cancer across this country. Together with our local affiliates who provide the direct support with families, we address the critical needs that families face today. As a grassroots leader in the childhood cancer community, it is our responsibility to speak for the needs of the families and survivors. Doing so, we help shape policy, research, and programs on the national level that affect the lives of families today and tomorrow. The board and staff of ACCO are committed to serving our community until the day when no child dies or is left with life long effects from this devastating disease.

American Childhood Cancer Organization’s mission is to address the needs of families through programs that emphasize information, advocacy, awareness, and research. In this way, we can support families both directly and through our affiliation with local organizations, and work toward a better tomorrow for our children and adolescents. Our organization was founded by a talented and committed group of parents, and we have placed a priority on ensuring that those making policy decisions today understand what a family goes through when their child has been diagnosed with cancer. Over two thirds of our organization board and staff are either survivors or a family member of a child or adolescent who had cancer. We understand this is a family disease and it is a disease that is for life. One in 330 children will be diagnosed before their 20th birthday, and it is estimated that by the year 2010 one in 450 young adults between the ages of 18 and 45 will be a survivor of childhood cancer. The recent Childhood Cancer Survivor Study has documented that 2/3 of survivors deal with long term late effects from its toxic treatment, 1/3 of which are moderate to severe. We strongly believe that families need accurate information, advocacy, and support from the first day of diagnosis through the rest of the child s life. The staff and board of American Childhood Cancer Organization are committed to meeting the needs of these survivors and their families.

Who We Are

American Childhood Cancer Organization ( ACCO ) began in 1970 by a group of parents whose children had been diagnosed with cancer. They came together to lobby for more research, and to support each other through the diagnosis and treatment of this life threatening disease at a time when very few children survived. Today, ACCO is one of the largest grassroots, national organizations dedicated to improving the lives of children and adolescents with cancer and their families. We are strong advocates for our families in Washington D.C., we produce the highest quality materials on childhood cancer, and we have over 40 local affiliate organizations across the country providing direct services to the families in their communities.

Eleanor Jean, Haute Beauty hosted a successful premiere of “A Scent for Humanity” with celebrity host Lily Elise of “The Voice”…

July 6, 2011 (Sherman Oaks, CA) On Friday July 1, 2011celebrities, press and media stopped into Eleanor Jean, Haute Beauty to celebrate the “Pink” carpet launch of “A Scent for Humanity” with Pop & R&B recording artist Lily Elise (NBC’s “The Voice” – Christina Aguliera’s team). Reading, Writing, It’s Exciting (RWE) was the first lucky charity to be drawn from the list of charities. RWE will receive a portion of sales every time Eleanor Jean, Haute Beauty Boutique sells the custom scent that Lily created appropriately titled “Lily’s Kiss”.

Along with drawing the charity name, Lily Elise also created her own custom scent at the fragrance bar. Guests received complimentary gift bags (Sponsors: New Beauty Magazine, Ventura Blvd Magazine, Prim, Tocca, Hint Water, and Food Should Taste Good Chips) along with decadent desserts provided by Ingrid’s Cafe…

Some of the participating charities in the drawing included: Santa’s Gift, Toys For Tots, Reading Writing It’s Exciting!, H.A.R.K., Children Of The Night, and Alicia’s House Food Pantry. Each month a new charity will be drawn and they will receive the proceeds from the boutique sales of the new scent each celebrity creates for the entire month until the next drawing takes place.

“A Scent for Humanity” is a charity trend created by Eleanor Jean, Haute Beauty to benefit charities worldwide. Eleanor Jean, Haute Beauty is inviting celebrities into the boutique on the first day of each month to benefit a different charity each month. After the celebrity draws the charity he or she will celebrate by creating the perfect scent. After the drawing Eleanor Jean, Haute Beauty will donate a portion of the sales to benefit that charity each month. This event will give ALL charities a chance to participate and benefit from the exposure as well as creating scents for each celebrity and every time that scent is sold Eleanor Jean will donate a portion of sales to benefit the monthly charity.

The Hangover: Part 2

“The Hangover 2″ brings in $30 million on Friday night

http://hangoverpart2.warnerbros.com/

HollywoodNews.com: For the moment, The Hangover 2 seems to be even stronger than I anticipated, while Kung Fu Panda 2 may not be breaking out as large as I hoped. Anyway, The Hangover 2 scored another $30 million on Friday night, showing almost no decline from its $31 million opening day. In fact, when you factor in the $10 million in midnight screenings that made up 1/3 of the opening day, the Friday performance is even more impressive. Point being, there is a chance that The Hangover 2 will have consistent business all weekend long, as opposed to a heavily-front-loaded opening day. The two models that may apply are Sex and the City 2 and Terminator: Salvation. Last year’s TV sequel grossed $51 million in five days, earning $26 of that in the first two. Obviously that film was frontloaded in its first two days, and there is a risk that Hangover 2 may suffer the same fate if it gets harder to do the whole ‘guy’s night out’ thing over the family-friendly holiday (which is a problem that Sex and the City 2 faced last year, with ‘girls’ night out’ being hard to arrange while taking care of the kids and setting up the family events). Under that model, The Hangover 2 will gross $115 million by Monday night, which is still a solid take. Under the Terminator: Salvation model, the film will play all weekend long at a consistent pace, giving The Hangover 2 a stunning $141 million over five days. Obviously, Saturday numbers will tell the tale.
